This page is for all sentencers in Staffordshire and the West Midlands (SWM).
SWM Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) manages offenders in the community – those subject to a court order and those released from prison on licence.
SWM CRC provides probation services for low and medium risk offenders across Staffordshire and the West Midlands. The National Probation Service manages high risk offenders.
SWM CRC runs a range of programmes and interventions which are available as sentencing options. However, its staff do not work in courts.
SWM Service Guide
This guide (click here to download) is designed to give magistrates, judges and others summary information about the services offered by Staffordshire & West Midlands (SWM) CRC, in relation to the sentences available under the Offender Rehabilitation Act 2014, the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 and the Criminal Justice Act 2003. It does not, however, cover provision for the under 18s.
The guide does not purport to be an authoritative guide to the law but represents the views of SWM CRC. It does not seek to replace detailed guidance from the Sentencing Council and any legal adviser.
The Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR)
The RAR came into effect on Sunday 1st February 2015. It replaced the Supervision and Specified activity requirements for all offences committed on or after that date. SWM CRC will be delivering acitivities as part of the RAR. A leaflet about the RAR is here.
