Making Your Past Pay (MYPP) aims to promote advice and guidance around the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, which was updated in March 2014. It helps clients to give the best possible presentation of their offending history, increasing their chances of getting a job. It is designed to promote discussion and encourage service users to follow the actions suggested in the film.

Making Your Past Pay (MYPP) is 25 minutes long and can be used with groups or individuals. The length and detail of the film suggests that it’s not ideal to leave clients alone to watch it in full, without support and advice from a member of staff, but this may be appropriate in some cases. We believe the best outcomes can be achieved when the Education, Training & Employment Officer/Probation Officer/Key Worker works through the film, pausing it at appropriate points to prompt discussion.

MYPP provides an overview of disclosing offences. It is important that the calculation of when convictions become spent is done with someone who understands the guidance and has appropriate literacy and numeracy skills to handle the information.

The Unlock charity have a produced a handy online ‘Disclosure Calculator’ –

Good luck!
