Community Payback clears 13 tonnes of waste in Cape Hill, Smethwick

Over 13 tonnes of waste has been cleared from Shireland Road in Cape Hill, Smethwick by a Community Payback team, as a result of over 270 hours of unpaid work ordered by the courts.

The area serves many shops in Cape Hill High Street and the rear gardens of properties in Florence Road. Due to the uncertainty of ownership of the site as a whole, there is no security or regular maintenance in place and as such it is subject to numerous complaints from adjacent residents and shop owners regarding the tonnes of piled up waste that cause a range of environmental issues, including odours and vermin.

The successful work is the result of a service level agreement involving Community Payback, environmental health, local councillors and the local neighbourhood office.
